We would like to hear from you!!!

This fund has been in effect since 1990. We have records from 1992. It is supported by the MUMCW and the total community of MUMC. Our purpose is to assist all who are in need on an emergency basis. We show our love of God by the way we love one another.

I could site hundreds of ways we have helped our neighbors. People need food and cannot qualify at the Food Bank so we offer our assistance. Some need gas money and we help in that area. Many times people are in need of a stay in a motor home and we provide that help. Too many times an unwed mother will need help to get food and shelter for her infant and/or some clothing for herself and her child. We try to show God's love by our actions at the time of the emergency.

You have heard me many times ask for assistance to get clothing and furniture for people who are in need. Also we have been asked to help with rent payments through the RCEHN and also from the other clergy in Middletown. There have been times when a needy person will ask for help to make car repairs. They have a job and the car will not go, so we buy the parts they need and then get someone to make the repair. This is done by someone pro bono. Other times we will be asked to help with an electric bill and a water bill. These are some of the many ways we provide help through the MUMC. Always showing God's love no matter what race, color or creed. We show care always in the manner that we handle every situation. Some people do not read, do not have an education and do not know just how to react to this help they are to receive.

We are very fortunate to have doctors in the community who will help to assist people with a medical problem (pro bono).

Some restaurants will help by giving food in an emergency.

This goes on and on. Sometimes I am called late at night to assist someone and I am very careful for safety's sake.

Ask me why I do this? It is because I love the Lord and He wants me to love my neighbor as I love myself. Sometimes I feel that I may be the only Bible some of these folks will see. Thank you for allowing me to do God's work.

In His Love,

Madeline A. Burke
