Outreach

October’s Love Offering is for our Volunteers in Missions Team who will be going to Liberia, Africa in May 2009. They will be working with our missionaries, who live there, at the hospital and in the surrounding villages, helping with the rebuilding after civil war and leading Vacation Bible School. The team has raised all the project money and is now working to raise the funds for their travel, food and accommodations. Thank you for your support!

The Food Bank is in need of many items! Cereals, canned meat, soups, juices, peanut butter, jelly and "all in one meals" are needed. Also needed are paper goods and personal care items. Please leave in the box across from the coat closet.

Workcamp Fundraiser - Place your used ink cartridges in the box in the coat closet. Cartridges will be recycled and at the same time funds will be raised to benefit our Youth Workcampers.

Habitat for Humanity is Staging a Concert On October 25thjoin us for a concert to benefit the Middletown building projects. The concert will be held at Christ Reformed UCC on 12 Walnut Street in Middletown. Tickets are $10 and will be sold at MUMC on October 11th and 18th or you can contact Ron Adams or Dave Rusk.


Community Building

Ministry/Mission Fair - come to the Annual Ministry/Mission Fair this weekend in the Social Hall, Saturday from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. and Sunday from 8:15 a.m. until - 12:30 p.m. Representatives from many of MUMC’s ministries and missions will be there to provide information and answer questions on service opportunities to which you may want to commit in 2009.

Commitment Weekend - next weekend is Commitment Weekend, October 11th & 12th. Everyone is encouraged to prayerfully consider the material contained in the stewardship packets you should have received by now. Please fill out your commitment cards and forms, place them in the yellow envelopes and return them to the church by next weekend, either by putting them in the offering plate or by mail.

Scrap Booking Night - it’s time for another scrap booking night! Join us on Friday, October 10th from 6:00 p.m. until you get tired. All are welcome. Bring your supplies and pictures and your friends. Please contact Heather Smith so we can save you a space!

Church Work Day - Saturday, October 11th beginning at 8:00 a.m. Activities include, planting, seeding, landscaping and general church clean up! Bring your tools and join the fun!

Holiday Fair Workshops Begin This Week! - Friday, October 10th from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and Saturday, October 10th from 9:00 a.m. until Noon. Come join the fellowship as we prepare for our church bazaar. Bring a craft that you are working on or come help with projects that will be ready to work on here. Meet in the social hall! United Methodist Men Study Group! - will meet on Sunday, October 5th from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. in room 206S. The group is studying Philip Yancey’s book “What’s So Amazing About Grace”. All men are invited to attend. More info, Ron Forrester.


Children & Families

Sunday, October 26th from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. “Holy Ghost Party - A Fall Festival for the Whole Family” at the Salisbury farm. Games, Crafts, Refreshments, Fishing (bring your own gear), volleyball, hide & seek, trick or treat and a Holy Ghost treasure hunt! Appropriate costumes are encouraged - You Too Adults! Bring a carved or decorated pumpkin to enter in a contest. Share the “Spirit” and bring an item for the food bank.


Couples Ministry Game Night - Saturday, October 25th at 6:00 p.m. Bring your favorite game and a snack to share. Childcare is available if needed. Sign up in lobby. For more information contact Aaron & Amy House.

The MUMC Health Ministry 6-week health series “What Do I Do Now: Navigating Life’s Changes:Am I Prepared?” continues this Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the Social Hall. Jan Ciarkowski, a primary care physician and Regina Baker, a care coordinator and discharge planner, will present on sorting through medical events -- where and how to get help! Childcare and refreshments provided!

October is Clergy Appreciation Month “And now, friends, we ask you to honor those leaders who work so hard for you, who have been given the responsibility of urging and guiding you along in your obedience. Overwhelm them with appreciation and love” 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13, The Message.

S'Ages One - Monday, October 13th at Noon - Birthday club for Seniors and Retirees (over 55 years). The faithful church ladies will serve lunch. It’s Halloween month - make and wear a funny hat. There will be prizes so don’t be shy, you have to play to win!


Faith Circle - Monday, October 27th at 10:00 a.m. - We’ll discuss the next chapter in our book. Ladies of ALL ages are Welcome to join!!

Bring a flashlight and wear old clothes/shoes. Bring a plastic bag to put muddy items in for the trip home.
